Today I saw The House of Cards by Stanley Cursiter at the Orkney Museum. I love the colours, the composition, the treatment of the printed fabric and I really admire the way the painting has been treated equally across the whole surface. Equal brush strokes, paint thickness and detail balanced with painterly marks. Seeing this painting today led me to look at similar paintings by Cursiter and I found Girl with Jug 1921, which again I admire for its composition and design elements. I love the black flat background and the treatment of describing fabric.
